Dodge Durango R/T breaks new
ground as the first high-performance sport-utility vehicle
from Dodge. With its 250-horsepower Magnum V-8 engine,
exceptional handling and bold styling, Durango R/T stands
out from the SUV crowd. "The Durango R/T is an example
of how the Dodge performance heritage finds many modern
interpretations," said Jim Julow, Vice President, Dodge
Division. "The muscle car era is still alive at Dodge.
Only these days it means muscle trucks, too. Enthusiasts
will find performance versions of all their favorite Dodge
models in the not-too-distant future, all carrying our
legendary R/T name. We're taking what we've learned on the
track and applying it to our production vehicles."
Dodge Durango R/T starts with a long list of standard
features such as independent front suspension, boxed frame
and Magnum V-8 power, but adds even more sizzling
performance to the mix.
Handling was a top priority in engineering Durango R/T.
Dodge engineers further improved Durango's already notable
cornering ability by giving it performance-tuned front and
rear shock absorbers. Grip and road feel is further enhanced
by wide P275/60R17 black sidewall tires on 17x9-inch
aluminum wheels. Power comes from a best-in-class 5.9-liter
250-horsepower Magnum V-8 engine. To make the most of
Durango's 345 lb.ft. of torque, the R/T sports a
limited-slip rear differential. A 3.92:1 rear axle ratio,
sport-tuned exhaust and a reprogrammed engine control module
give Durango R/T quicker off-the-line acceleration. Durango
R/T is also equipped with a full-time four-wheel drive
transfer case for four-wheel traction in all driving
conditions. Rear-wheel anti-lock brakes are standard.
Inside, Durango R/T receives luxurious appointments such as
two-tone R/T embroidered leather-trimmed high-back bucket
seats matched to suede door trim panels.

On the outside, each Durango
R/T is identified by bright R/T badging and
body-color wheel flares, while body-colored running boards
improve exterior function. Durango R/T is packaged with SLT
Plus upgrades including an overhead convenience group,
security alarm, wood grain instrument panel, AM/FM stereo
radio with cassette/CD player and graphic equalizer with
eight Infinity speakers and steering wheel-mounted audio
controls. Durango R/Ts are available in Flame Red, Bright
Platinum Metallic, Patriot Blue Pearl Coat and Black. Prices
for the 2000 Durango R/T begin at $34,175, including $535
destination charge. Options include four-wheel anti-lock
brakes, third-row seating, rear-seat air conditioning and
trailer-towing packages. Production of Durango R/T started in
January of 2000.
