1968 Plymouth GTX By Jerry Wilson

1968 Plymouth GTX By Jerry Wilson

I am the original owner of this 1968 Plymouth GTX which I bought new when I was 22 years old. I have the original window sticker, build sheet, first license plate registration, and all numbers matching documentation. It is Sunfire yellow with a black vinyl top and black interior.

Over the years I raced the car at many different tracks, but mostly at Marion County International Raceway, Norwalk Raceway, and Dragway 42 in Ohio. It was raced in the D/OA Stock optional classes which allowed slicks, headers and a cam of any duration, but it could not be over the stock lift. In 1975 I set the AHRA World Record for the 1/4 mile with a time of 12:95 and a speed of 106 mph with the car.

In 1986 I decided to retire it, and the car was repainted, the original engine and transmission was rebuilt, and all the numbers match. There are a few minor modifications to the car that I left intact to just reflect the history of the car, such as a cool can, and transmission cooler, but other than that, the car is all original right down to the dent in the rear bumper it received in an accident in the staging lanes.

Due to it's history, the car now has only 45,000 miles on it, (I like to say it was only driven on Sundays a quarter mile at a time).  I still get a lot of enjoyment from it and have taken it to a few cars shows, where I have been lucky enough to win a few trophies. I drive it on the street as a Sunday cruiser at least once a month and it still turns heads .
