Mopars Of The Month -June, 2005

440 Powered 1956 Chevrolet By Frank Stokan

1956 Chevrolet By Frank Stoka

My 1956 C body mopar, this is what happens when a die hard mopar guy gets a hold of a Chevy. I named it something else. Its a one of a kind awesome mopar monster. I found the car in a car show back in 1997. Like Charlie Brown and his X-mas tree I had a vision, but being the mopar man I am this is what happened. I did all the work myself in my garage over a four month time period working weekends. I did not have much money being a family man with kids so I had to use my skills to make things work. The engine is a 1974 motor home block with 10to 1compression. I used 73 heads with big valves and minor porting. I had to fabricate my own mounts, brackets, and linkage to make the 440 look factory installed. I did not want to use elephant ears, didn't think that would look right.

I used a dodge truck oil pan with a rear sump, and had to move a portion of the firewall back about 4 inches. I also kept the factory look by using stock manifolds. I kept it all mopar with a d.c 480 cam. The trans is a 727 I built using parts from three transmissions that were given to me. I have driven the car about 20,000 miles since I built it, and it runs flawless. It will smoke the tires or can hit the highway. I get the thumbs up from the mopar guys and it still turns stomachs at the Chevy shows (I get asked to leave at most of them. wonder why?) after all these years. It was not a easy swap, I almost gave up many times but it was worth the effort. I have owned many mopars over the years and just wanted to get even with those Chevy guys for putting their little motor in everything.

Thanks for featuring my car.
